🏌🏻5 Best Moments From The 2024 Season
Plus: How to rotate properly in the golf swing
Good morning! There is no PGA Tour event this week but the action will resume soon with eight FedEx Fall events over an 11-week period starting Sept. 12.
After that, there is a three-week gap between Tour events but one of those weeks will be filled by the Presidents Cup, Sept. 26-29.
Fun Fact: Haeran Ryu shot 78 in the 3rd round of the FM Championship this week but still managed to win in a playoff. It's the highest 3rd round score by a winner on the LPGA Tour in the last 50 years.
⛳ This day in history: Billy Casper, the odd-man out of the Big Three of Palmer, Nicklaus and Player, won his 50th PGA Tour victory on this date in 1973 at age 42.

This Is Where Scheffler's Season Earnings Rank Across Sports
Photo: Getty Images | Source: Golfweek
Scottie Scheffler has earned $62.2 million on course this season - incredibly, Major League Baseball star Shohei Ohtani is the only pro athlete to have earned more than World No 1 golfer this season.
Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason, with a per-season salary of $2 million and $$68 million in "deferred" payments - it all adds up to $70 million a year.
The NBA’s most avid golfer and best-paid player, Golden State’s Steph Curry, is set to make $55 million in 2024-25, and he played 74 games in the 2023-24 season. The NHL lags far behind in pay, so Scheffler blows away its top guy, Toronto’s Auston Matthews, who made $13.25 million.
International soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly making $200 million a year to play in Saudi Arabia, though "only" $75 million of that is said to be for his play.
In motorsports, Formula One’s Max Verstappen is making $55 million with Red Bull Racing. In NASCAR, Kyle Busch has the best salary with Richard Childress Racing at $16.9 million.
Tennis doesn’t approach golf in earnings - on the men’s side, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has won two Grand Slam titles this season and earned $8 million with more results to come. On the WTA, Poland’s Iga Swiatek has made $6.9 million.
Getting back to golf, Scheffler’s earnings this year probably cause old-timers in the game to laugh, cry or both. Tiger Woods made $5.7 million in that eight-win season of ’08, and there’s Jack Nicklaus, who cashed $9.1 million in his entire career.
đź’° How much did Scheffler's Caddie Earn? Scheffler's caddie, Ted Scott, earned an estimated total of $5,238,499, placing him above several Top stars in the PGA Tour earnings ranking.
This surpasses players such as Brian Harman, who has earned $5,138,310 and Max Homa with $3,786,000. A player like Tom Hoge, who played the Tour Championship and received substantial prizes, earned $5,188,329 - again, less than Scott.

How Rory Plans To Dominate 2025

Rory McIlroy admitted that a busy schedule had him crawling to the finish line in 2024 and said he might reduce his commitments in 2025 by as many as nine tournaments.
McIlroy said he still has five events planned for the fall and will look toward eliminating events for the 2025 season that begins Jan. 2 with The Sentry at Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii.
"It's been a long season, and I'm going to just have to think about trying to build in a few extra breaks here and there next year and going forward because I felt like I hit a bit of a wall sort of post-US Open, and still feel a little bit of that hangover", said McIlroy.
McIlroy had 27 events scheduled in 2024, with 19 of those on the official PGA Tour schedule. He also had a runner-up finish on the PGA Tour this season and seven top-10 finishes, while earning $10.9 million in official prize money.
⛳️ Tiger To Play Presidents Cup? Tiger Woods could be handed a Presidents Cup lifeline after Jim Furyk promised to “reach out” to the 15-time major winner.
Furyk has been given the reigns on a first US Presidents Cup captaincy at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada later this month. The 54-year-old will have six spots to fill when he announces his captain’s picks, with six members of the US team already automatically qualified.
The 2003 US Open winner will be joined by Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala as the already confirmed players in the roster.
Woods had earlier rejected the offer of Team US captain for the Ryder Cup, with Keegan Bradley taking the role instead. Will he play the Presidents Cup - it remains to be seen.

5 Memorable Moments From The 2024 PGA Tour Season

Now that the Tour Championship has wrapped and we're officially into the fall interlude, it's time to look back and count down the 5 most memorable moments from the season.
đź“ŤDe Chambeau's Bunker Shot To Win US Open: Bryson DeChambeau showed his mettle under the gun by converting a very difficult long up-and-down from the sand on the 18th hole at Pinehurst to win his second major by a shot.
Easily one of the clutchest shots of the year.
đź“ŤScheffler Wins Olympic Gold: It's hard to pick just one Scheffler playing moment from the year but the one that tops everything is the Olympic gold.
Scheffler chased down Rahm and everyone else in his way, and he re-asserted himself as the game's best player. Watching him cry during the anthem is still one of the most goosebump-inducing moments of the year.
đź“ŤSchauffele Conquers Troon: Xander Schauffele attacked the course in a way that felt audacious, thrilling and risky, and came away with a back-nine 31 on Sunday and seized the Open by the handles of the claret jug.
This was the first time he showed the world the magnitude of his talent.
đź“ŤRory's Heartbreak @ US Open: With apologies to Bryson, who was very good in capturing his second US Open, the lingering memory of Pinehurst will always be the unthinkable final three holes of McIlroy, starting with the missed shortie on 16 that's still hard to fathom.
The major drought is now a decade long, but somehow the pain has become more acute with time, and the Pinehurst finale is the most staggering chapter yet.
đź“ŤScheffler's Arrest: The world's best player rolled into Valhalla for the first round of his PGA Championship, crossed paths with the wrong cop, and suddenly the image of the year for our unassuming sport was this mugshot. It was a sequence of pure insanity, and days of analysis and re-analysis and counter-analysis followed until charges were dropped on May 29.
