FedEx Cup Fall: All You Need To Know

The second edition of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall begins this week in Napa, California. The title sponsor is a new one as Procore replaces Fortinet, but the venue, Silverado Resort and Spa, remains unchanged.

Following the opener are seven events, six of which are returning. Only the Black Desert Championship in Utah is new to the slate.

Winners of these fall events receive 500 FedEx Cup points, and all but the 78-player Zozo have full fields, which are open to any PGA Tour member in the priority ranking.

While any top-50 finishers in the FedExCup this past season can participate in fall events, any FedExCup points they earn won’t matter. They are already exempt into every signature event next season and are merely playing for cash and world-ranking points.

Players who qualified for the 70-man playoffs are guaranteed fully exempt status on Tour, though they’ll be among those fighting to finish in the Next 10, which comprises numbers 51-60 in FedEx Cup points after the fall.

⛳️ How does the Fall Series work? The top-125 players in the final standings secure full playing rights on the PGA Tour for the following term, although, those who ended the FedEx St. Jude Championship between 51st and 70th already have their cards locked up as a result of reaching the Playoffs.

Golfers in positions 126th to 150th after the RSM Classic will earn conditional status on the PGA Tour for the 2025 campaign. Anyone in that category can improve or regain their PGA Tour status via Q-School, too.

The aim for everyone involved in the FedEx Cup Fall is to finish as high up the rankings as possible, with the top-10 players on the points list at the culmination of the season - who are not already eligible for the Signature Events - qualifying for the first two Signature Events after The Sentry in 2025 (Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational).

Anyone inside the FedEx Cup top-50 is permitted to tee it up over the final eight events, should they wish, with prize money, world-ranking points, and - of course - titles still up for grabs.

This Is Why Theegala Played Two 8-Irons @ Tour Championship

As far as golf superstitions go, few are crazier than this one from Sahith Theegala.

During the recently concluded Tour Championship event, Theegala had hit a fairway-bunker shot and, when asked what club he used, Theegala mentioned that he had hit a 7-iron, although the club was labeled as an 8.

Theegala went on to explain that he had been struggling with his 7-iron for the past few weeks, frequently mis-hitting it, and had asked the manufacturers at East Lake to label the club as an 8-iron instead, hoping the change would help with his performance.

The strategy paid off, too, as Theegala finished third.

🚀 Returns as Defending Champion: The 2024 PGA TOUR schedule resumes at this week’s Procore Championship – the FedEx Cup Fall’s kickoff event – at Silverado Resort in Napa, California.

Players who finished in the top 50 in the FedEx Cup can still compete in the FedEx Cup Fall – like No 3 Sahith Theegala, who returns to Napa as the defending champion.

Theegala, two-time Procore winner Max Homa and 2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark are the U.S. Team’s three competitors playing in Napa. They are joined by two of captain Jim Furyk’s assistants in Kevin Kisner and Stewart Cink.

Theegala arrives for his title defense after finishing third at the TOUR Championship. He secured a spot at the Presidents Cup as one of the top six automatic qualifiers for the American squad.

Theegala has finished inside the top 15 in three of his last four starts at Silverado.

Now that the 2024 season has come to an end with the conclusion of the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup Playoffs - we take a look at some of the most notable streaks from the 2024 season.

📌 Consecutive Cuts Overall (55): Xander Schauffele is up to 55, more than a third of the way to Tiger’s 142. If he averages the 21 events per year that he played in 2024, he’ll need to not miss a cut for the next four-plus years if he wants to break the all-time mark.

In his career, Schauffele has made 160 cuts in 183 starts.

đź“Ś Consecutive Cuts In 2024 (22): Schauffele made 21 cuts in 2024 in 21 starts. The consecutive cuts leader in 2024 was Corey Conners, who was 22-for-22 for the season.

đź“Ś Longest Streak Avoiding 3-putt (359): Shane Lowry holds the honor here, and what a nice streak this must be for the owner of 359 consecutive times on the green without a three-putt.

📌 Consecutive Fairways Hit (38): Chez Reavie played in 21 events and did miss the cut 12 times in 2024, but he’s hit the fairway now 38 in a row and counting.

đź“Ś Consecutive Greens-In-Regulation (38): Matt NeSmith is the current holder of this streak. The 30-year-old did miss 12 cuts in 22 starts in 2024.

đź“Ś Consecutive Sand Saves (19): In his bounce-back season of 2024 in which he won again on the PGA Tour and returned to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Billy Horschel has a streak going of 19 straight sand saves.
