Plus: How to get more distance
Good Morning! Last weekend, Robert MacIntyre called his dad back home in Oban, Scotland, seeking a temporary caddie for the RBC Canadian Open.
Dougie MacIntyre, who hadn't caddied since 2017, accepted the offer to support his son during his PGA TOUR debut season.
The results have been promising, with Robert posting rounds of 64-66 and sitting atop the leaderboard with a bogey-free 10-under 130 after Round 2.
Today’s Trivia: The US Open is the next major on the PGA Calendar. Who's the oldest champion in the history of the tournament? Answer at the end of the email.
⛳ This day in history: On this date, in 1975, the LPGA Championship wrapped up at Pine Ridge Golf Course, with Kathy Whitworth winning it for the third time, by one shot over Sandra Haynie.

Big names have missed the cut across both the PGA and LPGA Tour events. The reigning champion, Nick Taylor, is out of the RBC Canadian Open, while World No. 1 Nelly Korda also bows out of the US Women's Open.
⛳️ PGA Tour: Ryan Fox and Robert MacIntyre share the lead in the RBC Canadian Open after shooting 6-under 64s. Joel Dahmen trails by two strokes with a 65, while Mackenzie Hughes, David Skinns, and Andrew Novak are tied at 7-under, with Hughes carding two eagles and two closing bogeys in his round.
A number of big names missed the cut - defending champion Nick Taylor was among those eliminated, ending his bid to repeat last year's victory. RBC ambassadors Sahith Theegala and Cameron Young also missed the cut.
Despite a record 28 Canadians starting the tournament, only eight remain in contention to win on home soil. Mike Weir, Alex Noren and Eric Cole are some of the other notable names who missed cut.

⛳️ LPGA Tour: Wichanee Meechai leads at 4 under, with Andrea Lee two shots behind. They're the only ones to post rounds in the 60s in both rounds.
Among the four players under par, two are major champions: Minjee Lee and Yuka Saso. Tied for fifth are amateurs Asterisk Talley and Megan Schofill, with a total of four amateurs making the cut.
Tournament favorite Nelly Korda missed the cut, falling two short of the cut line after a disastrous 10 on the par 3 12th during round one. It's her third missed cut in five US Women's Opens - but she was not the only big name to fall short of the eight-over cut mark.
Rose Zhang, Lexi Thompson, Allisen Corpuz, Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson all failed to make it to the weekend.

Golfers Make These Mistakes When Buying Clubs

While the purchase of a brand new set of golf clubs brings about immediate satisfaction, there are some common mistakes golfers make when purchasing new clubs straight from the shelf.
📌 Purchase Based On Looks: While new bladed irons might earn you compliments, their smaller size means a smaller sweet spot, requiring precise ball striking. Consider your skill level and opt for clubs with technology for more forgiveness and height, improving your chances of hitting greens and lowering scores.
📌 Wrong Specifications: Stock golf clubs typically come in standard length and lie angles, but these standards can vary by brand. Custom fitting at a PGA TOUR Superstore can ensure proper shaft length and lie angle for consistent contact.
The lie angle affects how the club sits and where the face aims; an incorrect angle can lead to shots veering off target. Custom fitting addresses these factors, enhancing accuracy and performance on the course.
📌 Wrong Shaft Profile: Selecting a shaft flex that matches your swing speed and launch characteristics is crucial, despite the temptation to choose based on ego. Understanding shaft options from various manufacturers helps in making an informed decision. Factors like angle of attack and ball flight influence the choice; for instance, a positive angle may require a lower spinning shaft.
Exploring different shaft profiles facilitates transitioning between brands. Consulting a PGA TOUR Superstore associate or getting a fitting can guide you to the right product for your swing.
📌 Not Considering Grip Options: Grip size significantly affects shot shape and club face delivery. If your grips are too small, it may lead to an overly active club face and shots missing left, while grips that are too large can result in passive hands and shots missing right.
Getting advice on the right grip size and type is crucial, ensuring comfort and optimal performance. Putter grips particularly impact feel and performance, so trying out different options is essential for making the right choice.
