MacIntyre Wins Title On Home Soil

Robert MacIntyre made a 22-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 3-under 67 to win the Scottish Open, becoming the first Scot in 25 years to win his national open. Colin Montgomerie in 1999 was the last Scot to win the Scottish Open.

MacIntyre won for the second time this year, having earlier captured the Canadian Open - the fourth-oldest championship in golf -- last month. He will head to Royal Troon feeling as chuffed as ever and knowing that it has been over a century since a British player won at Troon.

Adam Scott finished second, just a shot behind MacIntyre while French player Romain Langasque occupied the third spot.

📌 Rory Struggles With Short Game: Rory McIlroy’s ball-striking was good enough to win the Genesis Scottish Open, but the putter was a different story. McIlroy hovered around the lead for most of the week at The Renaissance Club, but his 14-under total was four short of winner Robert MacIntyre.

McIlroy ranked second in the field in both Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green. He ranked No 63 in the field in putting, though – and the fact that he had an outside chance at the title heading into the final few holes Sunday, then, was a testament to his ball-striking.

McIlroy will now head to Royal Troon where he'll have one final chance in 2024 to snap a major-championship winless drought that currently spans 10 years.

Scheffler Makes Unusual Move To Win The Open

Scottie Scheffler has devised a unique plan to prepare for The Open. He has returned to links golf after a short break, but not the Genesis Scottish Open venue where the year's last Major will take place this week.

Unlike the majority of PGA Tour pros, like Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and more, who chose the Renaissance Club to get familiar with the unique links courses, Scottie Scheffler chose the Trump Turnberry in South Ayrshire to practice before the tournament.

After playing the last PGA Tour signature event, the Travelers Championship, Scheffler took a 3-week mid-season break and decided to miss the Scottish Open. The primary reason behind missing the event before the last major stems was to give himself some much needed rest and work on his game after a streak of average results.

“I think going into the major championships, especially the ones we know are going to be really challenging. It may be in my best interest not to play the week before", said Scheffler after the US Open.”

Thus, the Renaissance Club was dropped from Scheffler’s schedule and Turnberry became the better choice for practice.

⛳️ Scheffler chooses Turnberry despite R&A’s rejection: The last time Turnberry hosted the Open Championship was in 2009. Since then, the R&A has not visited the historical golf course.

The R&A rejected the plea of Turnberry representatives when they asked in 2021. The organization explained that it doesn’t see a foreseeable future with Turnberry.

But as always, Scheffler has other plans and these unconventional decisions often work in his favor.

DeChambeau Faces $2M Extortion Battle

Bryson DeChambeau’s 2024 US Open victory has led to a bitter feud with his longtime golf teacher. The LIV Golf star claims that his former coach, Mike Schy, tried extorting $2 million from him after his victory last month at Pinehurst.

The allegation comes after Schy claimed that the 30-year-old golfer didn’t hold up his end of a supposed deal to help fund the Central Valley Jon DeChambeau Memorial Junior Tour, named after DeChambeau’s late father.

📍Schy's Claims: Schy wants a a reinstatement of a $60,000-per-year salary he says he was promised and turned down a compensation offer he dismissed as “a few bucks,” though DeChambeau says he offered $300,000 and that the two haven’t worked together since 2018.

He also claims DeChambeau fired Schy’s son David, who was building a putting green in DeChambeau’s backyard.

📍DeChambeau's Claims: Although Schy claimed that DeChambeau had intentionally not funded his attempts at a more affordable junior tour circuit in DeChambeau’s native Clovis, California area, the pro rejected those assertions.

DeChambeau is clear on his part that he isn't going to pay Schy almost 50 percent of his US Open winnings. He is willing to compensate him for his help with Krank and Avoda (sponsors) but would not allow himself to be extorted for $2 million.
