We also dive deeper into Rory McIlroy's turbulent relationship with the PGA Tour Board and explore the ‘mythical status’ of sub-60 rounds in the history of professional golf.
That, and a putting tip to save 5 strokes, in today's edition of Golf Reporter.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Changed The Top Player Rankings
⛳ This day in history: On this date in 1966, Arnold Palmer shot his best score of the Bob Hope Desert Classic that year, a 67, in the fourth round, then lost a playoff the next day when he and Doug Sanders tied at 349. Sanders won on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff, dropping Arnie to an 11-8 won-loss record.

AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Update
Round 4 of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am was initially postponed to Monday due to inclement weather. But, organizers later decided to end the competition at 54 holes as weather conditions are not expected to improve and declared overnight leader Wyndham Clark as the champion.
LIV Mayakoba had a smoother ending but it wasn't short of drama either as John Rahm's Legion XIII made an epic comeback to win the team event on debut.
Wyndham Clark Reigns Supreme. Clark had carded 12-under 60 on the third day at Pebble Beach to break the course record at Pebble Beach and entered Day 4 as the leader. This win is Clark's third victory on the PGA Tour, all achieved within one year. In the previous year, he secured wins at the Wells Fargo Championship and the US Open.

LIV Golf Mayakoba Update
Niemann won his first LIV Golf title two days after opening with a 12-under 59 and even a two-stroke penalty couldn't stop him from becoming the champion in Mayakoba. He made a 12-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the fourth hole of a playoff to beat Sergio Garcia.
Debutants Legion XIII became the ninth different LIV Golf team to win a trophy. They posted a 24-under score as a team to beat Bryson DeChambeau's Crusher GC by four shots.

Rory vs PGA Tour Board

Rory McIlroy has removed himself from a PGA Tour-player group chat in a bid to distance himself from the Tour’s ongoing negotiations with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) following difference in opinions with Jordan Spieth.
McIlroy and Spieth have differing views on the PIF investment - they had an intense one-hour long phone call on the issue but it doesn't seem to have worked out. Spieth claims that the PGA Tour no longer needs the backing of the PIF following its latest $3 billion deal with the SSG and McIlroy has a polar opposite view.
"They are still sitting out there with hundreds of billions of dollars, if not trillions, that they're gonna pour it into sport. And I know what Jordan was saying, I absolutely know what he was saying and what he was trying to say. But if I were PIF and I was hearing that coming from here, the day after doing this SSG deal, it wouldn't have made me too happy, I guess?”
Spieth is currently serving the remainder of Rory McIlroy's term as a player director on the PGA Tour's policy board. McIlroy had earlier resigned from his post in November 2023.

Breaking 60 has always held mythical status in golf. The first one came in 1977. It was another 14 years before someone did it again.
