FedEx Cup Fall: Who’s Up, Who’s Down

Time is running out for players to secure status on the PGA Tour for next season. The top 125 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings through this week’s RSM Classic will be exempt into all full-field events and the Players Championship in 2024.

Here’s a closer look at who was up and who was down after the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

  • Camilo Villegas: A T-2 in Mexico and a win in Bermuda and Villegas is suddenly exempt for the next two seasons. He collected 500 points and moved from No. 147 to No. 75 in the FedEx Cup standings.

  • Matti Schmid: Schmid closed in 67 to finish third in Bermuda. He began the week at No. 148 in the FedEx Cup Fall Standings and moved to No. 120.

  • Carl Yuan: He’s shot up from 151st at the end of the regular season to 125th in the standings. He’s heading into the RSM Classic as the Bubble Boy.

  • Ryan Moore: With a T-5 in Bermuda, Moore, 40, earned his best finish since the 2021 John Deere Classic (T2) and moved from 140 to No. 128 in the FedExCup standings.

Formula 1 vs PGA Tour: Live on Netflix Tonight

Netflix, which is set to have a live golf telecast for the first time, has announced pairings for the first-ever Netflix Cup, which matches a “Drive to Survive” racer and a “Full Swing” golfer in a two-man competition.

In a one-of-a-kind crossover competition, Formula 1 drivers and PGA TOUR golfers will team up and swing to survive.

In a clash of wheels and irons, four pairs consisting of one F1 driver and one PGA TOUR professional will play an eight-hole match with the top two teams advancing to the final hole, where they will battle for the chance to win the inaugural Netflix Cup title.

The Netflix Cup kicks off the action of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix week, and it’s all happening LIVE, at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, today.

The pairings are:

  • Rickie Fowler and Lando Norris

  • Justin Thomas and Carlos Sainz

  • Collin Morikawa and Pierre Gasly

  • Max Homa and Alex Albon

Championships To Watch This Week

RSM Classic: At the Sea Island Seaside Course, Georgia with a purse of $8.4 million. The 2022-23 PGA TOUR season ends at The RSM Classic, the final event of the FedExCup Fall. In contrast to a historically tranquil vibe in coastal Georgia, the tension will be palpable this week as players jockey to improve (or keep) TOUR status for the 2024 season.

DP World Tour (European): At the Jumeirah Golf Estates - Earth Course, Dubai with a purse of €9.4 million. Rory McIlroy returns to Dubai this week in search of a third DP World Tour Championship title and with a fifth Harry Vardon Trophy already secured at the final Rolex Series event of the 2023 DP World Tour season.

CME Group Tour (LPGA): At the Tiburon Golf Club - Gold Course, Florida with a purse of $7 million, the largest on Tour outside the major championships, and $2 million of that goes to the winner, the biggest payday in the women's game. Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson will miss out on this year's CME Group Tour Championship.

  • LIV Golf: New Zealand’s Ben Campbell drained a 15-foot birdie putt on the famous par-4 18th hole to win the Hong Kong Open after a gripping battle over the closing stages with playing partners Cam Smith from Australia and Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai.
