Golf's rising star Viktor Hovland is looking to implement a different strategy from most others to conquer this week's Genesis Invitational at Riviera.
Hovland has done it before and will be trying a very similar method as he attempts to navigate past the tricky 15th hole at Riviera Country Club. He was spotted practicing the alternative route on Wednesday.
Most players will try and thrash their ball down the left side of 15, but that leaves a very tough approach shot in.
Hovland opts to stand on the 15th tee with driver in hand and and aim through a gap in the trees towards the adjacent 17th fairway on his right.
How does this strategy help?
✅ It takes the extremely penal bunker that sits around 300 yards down the right-hand side of the fairway out of play.
✅ There is currently no internal out of bounds between 15 and 17, so players can avoid the almost certain bogey which finding the sand results in.

Golf's biggest names have the chance to make major gains in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) this week as huge points are up for grabs at the Genesis Invitational.
🏌️ Rory McIlroy: McIlroy could replace Scottie Scheffler from the No 1 spot if he wins The Genesis Invitational. Anything else but a win for McIlroy would see Scheffler continue to hold the top spot.
🏌️Ludvig Aberg: Aberg is 11th right now but he could climb as high as No 5 if he wins the trophy at Riviera this week.
🏌️ Tiger Woods: Woods could move up over 850 places if he were to win at Riviera for the first time in his career. He can jump to 54th in the list if he can pick up a record 83rd PGA Tour title.
🏌️ Wyndham Clark: A win at Riviera would see Clark move up to No 4. The US Open winner reached a career-high of 6th in the world rankings after his recent triumph at Pebble Beach.
🏌️Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman and Max Homa: All three of them could move up to career-best positions of 5th if they win the Genesis Invitational.

Tiger Woods made his first start at Riviera back in 1992. But he hasn't managed to win at this venue in all these years.

1993: The event was shortened to 54 holes due to weather disturbances. Woods missed the cut once again.
1997: Woods did well to finish T-20. Nick Faldo, the reigning Masters champion, claimed victory by three shots.
1998: Woods finished second. He registered impressive scores of 65-66, tying with fellow Californian Billy Mayfair at 12-under 272 but ultimately lost in the playoff.
