Team US Wins Solheim Cup After 7 Years

The United States has finally broken through after a seven-year drought in international competition by winning the 2024 Solheim Cup. After three straight defeats in the biannual event, the US prevailed with a 15.5 to 12.5 victory at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.

Lilia Vu finished birdie-birdie to tie Albane Valenzuela and earn a half point that gave the Americans the clinching point they needed to bring home the trophy.

Nelly Korda, who went 3-1-0 and got her first Solheim Cup victory in four tries, got smoked in the leadoff spot 6 & 5 by Charley Hull to begin Europe's comeback attempt. But Megan Khang, Allisen Corpuz and Rose Zhang all clinched victories moving the Americans to 13 points.

Ultimately, Lauren Coughlin earned a half point with a par at the 18th, fighting back from 3 down on the 11th tee to squeak out a tie and set up Vu for the clincher.

The next Solheim Cup will be played in the Netherlands in 2026.

🤯 Caddies Rip Off Shirts: Bizarre scenes ensued at the Solheim Cup on Saturday with two caddies removing their shirts in celebration as Alison Lee continued Team US' domination by holing out from the fairway.

Lee's caddie Taylor "Shota" Takada and playing partner Megan Khang's looper Jack Fulghum immediately tore off their shirts and bibs and hugged the players and each other.

The moment received a mixed reaction, with some viewers dubbing it "classless", but NBC's on-course reporter Kay Cockerill clarified the situation - Fulgham told the American duo on the tee box that he would fork out $500 if either of them holed out during the round, but Lee renegotiated and suggested removing their shirts as a more fitting forfeit.

And when her approach shot found the cup, Fulgham and Takada had no hesitation in keeping up their end of the bargain.

📌 Where US Trumped Europe: In the team portion, where there were two foursomes and four ball sessions, the US claimed 12 victories on par 5s, whereas the Europeans had eight, with six ties taking place in the foursomes.

In the fourballs, US dominated proceedings, as they won 15 times on par 5s, with the Europeans claiming just five wins in the afternoon session and 12 ties. That means, overall, US secured 27 wins on par 5s, Europe 13 and 18 ties - this played a huge factor in the overall result.

Photo: Reuters | Source: PGA Tour

Jon Rahm captured two titles on Sunday - the LIV Golf Chicago event and the 2024 LIV Golf League individual championship.

He won by three strokes over his main competition for the season-long title, Chile's Joaquin Niemann and fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia.

Rahm earned $22 million—$4 million for LIV Chicago and $18 million for the season-long title—meaning his earnings from LIV in 2024 were $37.9 million.

💰 Rahm's Earnings In 2024: At his first event in Mayakoba, he finished in a share of third alongside Dean Burmester and pocketed $1,250,000.

Rahm then made $525,000 for finishing solo eighth in Las Vegas, whilst a solo fifth in Jeddah gave him a $800,000 payday. Another tied eighth followed in Hong Kong, as Rahm netted $396,071.

In the next two LIV tournaments, Rahm finished tied third and tied fourth in Miami and Adelaide to pick up $833,333 and $920,000.

At LIV Golf UK, he would claim his first title on the circuit, as he beat fellow Legion XIII teammate, Hatton, by a single stroke at the JCB Golf And Country Club to claim the $4 million first prize.

Rahm put in yet another fine performance at Greenbrier to finish in second spot. Although he lost to Brooks Koepka in a playoff, he pocketed $2.25m.

All of these earnings in addition to the $22 million that he bagged yesterday, takes his season earnings close to $40 million.

Patton Kizzire secured his first PGA victory of the season at the Procore Championship in Napa. He shot a 2-under-par 70 to finish the tournament 20-under 268, five strokes ahead of his nearest pursuer.

David Lipsky provided his biggest competition on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71 to finish in second place with a 15-under 273.

Patrick Fishburn (71) was third at 14 under.

📍Putter To The Rescue: The putter Kizzire used—a Ping Vault Bergen mallet—was introduced even before his last win (2017-18).

The Vault, introduced in 2016, is a reference to Ping’s collection of gold-plated and solid gold putters created for tournament winners and features a face with the company’s True Roll technology where the face has a milled pattern of intersecting arcs at various depths that help speed up off-center impacts to provide a consistency of distance.

So consistent that Kizzire was first in strokes gained/putting, picking up nearly nine shots on the field and second in putts per green in regulation.

All of which led to him being first on the leaderboard for the first time in a long time.
