🏌🏻New Twist To Scheffler's Case

Plus: 3 drills to improve balance

Good morning. Round 2 of the Charles Schwab Challenge is underway. There are 132 golfers in the field - top 65 and ties will advance to the final two rounds.

Top stars Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa currently lie outside the projected cutline while Jordan Spieth just makes it as things stand. Homa (+8) needs an outstanding second round if he’s to make it to the weekend.

You can watch all the live action on Golf Channel.

Fun Fact: Scottie Scheffler made a triple bogey during Round 1 at Colonial. It was his first triple bogey or worse since last year's Tour Championship.

Scheffler went 843 holes officially between triples.

⛳ This day in history: On this date in 1910, World Golf Hall of Fame member Jimmy Demaret, a three-time Masters winner, was born in Houston, Texas.

Scottie Scheffler will compete in the 49th edition of the Memorial Tournament founded and hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The $20 million signature event will be held from June 6-9 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Scheffler will be joined by reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark, six-time PGA TOUR winner Max Homa, fan favorite Rickie Fowler and returning star Will Zalatoris.

📸 New Twist To Scheffler’s Case: The police detective who arrested golfer Scottie Scheffler as the World No 1 attempted to enter Valhalla Golf Club last Friday went through "corrective action" because his body-worn camera was turned off.

The Police have not acquired any video footage of the initial actions between Scheffler and Gillis. Despite that, the LMPD published two videos captured in the area, one via a fixed camera attached to a pole.

🚫Charges Won't Be Dropped: The four charges against Scheffler won't be dropped until at least the next court date scheduled for June 3.

While Scheffler has confirmed his participation at the Memorial Tournament (starting June 6), there is a slight chance that the dates might clash if the court announces a further date for hearing.

Hoffman Leads As Stars Struggle @ Charles Schwab

Charley Hoffman posted a bogey-free, 5-under 65 to take the first-round lead at the Colonial Golf Course. Brian Harman, Tony Finau, Davis Riley, S.H. Kim and Martin Laird opened with rounds of 4-under 66 and are all tied for second place.

Hoffman had three birdies in his first eight holes and coasted home from there, using a 65 to take the top spot on the leaderboard as the wind wreaked havoc on other players, especially in the afternoon wave.

⛳️ Stars Struggle: Pre-tournament favorites Scottie Scheffler (T-79), Jordan Spieth (T-63) and Max Homa (T-129) had a dismal opening round.

World No 1 Scheffler carded a triple bogey and his 2-over 72 on was the second time in his past three rounds he was over par. Before that, he had played 41 consecutive rounds at par or better.

📍The Ultimate Bet: Eight players who have rented two different properties close to the golf course are playing a game with the winners staying scot-free for the week. Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd were appointed captains and a draft was held prior to the opening round.

Kirk’s team has Sepp Straka, J.T. Poston and Ben Kohles while Todd’s side is comprised of Harris English, Denny McCarthy and Greyson Sigg. The top three scores count for Thursday and Friday and the top two scores for the weekend.

The losers have to pay for the winners’ house.

2017 vs 2024: The Evolution Of Xander Schauffele

Photo: Getty Images | Source: Golf Digest

Xander Schauffele joined the PGA Tour in the 2016/17 season and went on to win the Rookie of the Year honors after becoming the first rookie to win the Tour Championship.

Fast forward to 2024, he has established himself as one of the best golfers in the world - here's how much he has progressed over the years.

📌 In 2014, Schauffele ranked 138th around the greens and was also outside the top 100 in Strokes Gained: Approach. The best part of his game was his driving, where he gained over half a stroke vs the field to rank 17th.

Now in 2024, he ranks 2nd off the tee, and he's also gone from 34th to 2nd in SG: Total.

📌 Around the green remains his weakest statistic but he is no longer losing strokes vs the field and has gone from 138th to 36th. That 36 number is also his lowest ranking in all categories of the game.

📌 One area has become weaker since his rookie season though - in his rookie season, he gained 0.402 strokes on the greens but now only gains 0.398.

📌 Currently, he gains 2.265 strokes vs the field in every single PGA Tour round he plays, and that's gone up by 1.384 since his first year on tour.
