The PGA Championship 2024 Preview

The PGA Championship, organized by the Professional Golfers' Association of America, is an annual golf tournament exclusively for professional players and is one of the four major championships in men's golf.

Over the years, it has been hosted at various locations, with some early venues now less known. In recent times, it has typically taken place at a small group of celebrated courses, such as this year's venue, Val Halla Golf Club.

The 2024 PGA Championship will be the 106th edition of the PGA Championship and the second of the men's four major golf championships held in 2024. The tournament will be played from May 16–19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, United States.

Venue Details

Val Halla Golf Club, situated on Shelbyville Road in the eastern part of Louisville, is a private golf club crafted by renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986.

Spanning 486 acres, the course was conceived by local entrepreneur Dwight Gahm and his three sons, who initiated its development in 1981. With a length of 7,458 yards, a slope rating of 148, and a course rating of 78.4, it offers a challenging experience for golfers.

This esteemed course, designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, has been welcoming the public since its inauguration in 1986.

Trophy

The Wanamaker Trophy, honoring businessman and golfer Rodman Wanamaker, stands at approximately 2.5 feet (75 cm) tall and weighs 27 pounds (12 kg). In an intriguing turn of events, the trophy went missing for a brief period until resurfacing in 1930 in the cellar of L.A. Young and Company.

Interestingly, this cellar belonged to the factory responsible for producing golf clubs for Walter Hagen, the individual who had inadvertently misplaced the trophy. Hagen claimed to have entrusted a taxi driver with the valuable item, but it never made its way back to his hotel.

While the champion receives a smaller replica trophy to keep permanently, the original must be returned for the subsequent year's tournament.
