Scottie Scheffler Is Now A Free Man

All four charges against Scottie Scheffler stemming from the PGA Tour starâs May 17 arrest have been dropped. Jefferson County attorney Mike OâConnell said Schefflerâs âcharacterization that this was a âbig misunderstandingâ is corroborated by the evidence.â
Scheffler had been charged with reckless driving, criminal mischief and second degree assault of a police officer, which is a felony. As part of a deal to dismiss the charges, both sides agreed not to pursue any legal action against one another.
A footage from the spot revealed Scheffler conversing with another officer, seemingly admitting he didn't comply with Gillis' initial orders because he wasn't aware Gillis was a police officer. Click here to watch the clip.
đ¤ Was Scheffler Given Special Treatment? Scottie Scheffler spent 72 minutes in downtown Louisville's jail on May 17 before being released without bail, in time to make his tee time in the second round of the PGA Championship.
đ What happened after Scheffler arrived at Louisville jail? Scheffler was booked into LMDC around 7:28 a.m., roughly an hour after his arrest, which occurred about 19 miles away. Within eight minutes of his booking, he was interviewed. By 7:58 a.m., exactly 30 minutes after his booking, District Court Judge Sara Nicholson approved his release without bail, with conditions to comply with all laws and attend court appearances.
đ What usually happens when someone is sent to Louisville Jail? When individuals are arrested by LMPD, they're typically taken to Metro Correctionsâ sally port on Cedar Street. At LMDC, they undergo a pat search, body scan, and are provided with a jumpsuit. Fingerprints and a booking photo are taken. Pretrial Services interviews the defendant and assesses their flight risk and likelihood of reoffending within 24 hours, then makes a recommendation to a judge regarding release.
đ Was Scheffler Treated Differently? Scheffler's swift release without bond was atypical, especially considering the gravity of the charges and his non-local status, according to local civil and defense attorney Shaun Wimberly, who found it "strange." Defense attorney David Mour, who represented several arrested protesters in 2020, sees the Scheffler incident as emblematic of an unjust legal system.

The popularity of Alignment Sticks is growing rapidly among pros and it's very much visible at this week's US Women's Open in Lancaster. The inexpensive training aid can be as helpful to amateurs as it is to the pros.

đStand behind your ball and choose a target.
đGrab your alignment stick and lay it down so itâs aimed at the target, laying halfway between your feet and the ball.

These Are The Biggest Controversies In US Women's Open History

The US Womenâs Open has had its fair share of controversies in its 78 years of existence - as another edition tees off today, we take a look at some of them.
đââRookie Mistake (2023): Thai rookie Natthakritta Vongtaveelap was on her sixth hole after starting from the back nine when her US Womenâs Open journey was cut short by a rule violation. During the first round, on multiple occasions, the player's caddie used a distance measuring device and that resulted in DQ.
Although rangefinders are allowed on most LPGA Tour events, distance-measuring devices are banned at the AIG Womenâs Open and the US Womenâs Open.
đââ Chamblee Controversy (2023): Brandel Chamblee suggested on air that the USGA should scale down the lengths by 1,100 yards. The veteran Golf Channel analyst thought that LPGA Pros not driving the greens on the par-5s robs the LPGA tour of a lot of its excitement.
He further suggested that the courses for menâs golf should be moved to 8000 yards and these comments heated up the Twitterati in no time.
đââCorpuz's Slow Play (2023): Allisen Corpuz had a challenging Sunday at last year's US Women's Open when she and her playing partner, Nasa Hataoka, were put on the clock on the back nine. Adding to the stress, Corpuz's caddie, Jay Monahan, had to take a restroom break shortly after.
The USGA officials warned them again on the 13th hole, stating that one more warning would result in a one-stroke penalty. Fortunately, they avoided further warnings, and Corpuz went on to win the Harton S. Semple trophy with a three-stroke victory.
đââTrump's Presence (2017): Seven years ago, the US Womenâs Open took place at the Trump National First Course amid calls for Trump not to be present, as many believed it would overshadow the LPGA Tour pros.
Despite that, former President Donald Trump watched from an enclosed viewing area on the 15th green, becoming the first sitting President to visit the National Womenâs major. His presence cast unnecessary controversy over the event, putting the LPGA in his shadow.
đââPlayoff Controversy (2016): In the playoff against Brittany Lang, Anna Nordqvist faced a decisive moment at the final hole when rules officials informed her of a penalty for a rules violation on the 17th bunker at CordeValle. Her 5-iron touching the sand gave Lang a two-shot advantage.
Lang, previously aiming for a birdie, adjusted her strategy to secure a win with a two-putt. Nordqvist accepted the ruling but wished she had been informed earlier, reflecting on how it might have affected her approach to the 18th pin.
