Plus: How to stop hooking the ball

Good morning! The LPGA's oldest Major Championship, the US Women's Open takes centre stage this week, but how many people will really follow it?

The lack of coverage has been a real concern in the women’s game and Nelly Korda hit out at the TV networks after the winning the 1st Major this year - but can we blame the broadcasters if the general interest among the golf fans is low?

Today’s Trivia: Who's the defending champion of the US Women's Open? Answer at the end of the email.

⛳ This day in history: Sam Snead won the Colonial National Invitation on this date in 1950. Two days ago, Davis Riley won the event for his first solo tour victory; the event is now the Charles Schwab Challenge.

World No 1 Nelly Korda will try to win her second straight major and keep the potential of a “Nelly-Slam” alive this week at Lancaster Country Club. That and a lot more to look forward to in the US Women's Open.

🚀 Nelly-Slam At Stake: Korda is trying to become the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win the first two majors of the women’s golf season. She has won six times on Tour this year in eight starts.

Her biggest challenge could come off the tee. She’s 71st on Tour in driving accuracy (74.19%), which could prove problematic at Lancaster, a course featuring thick rough and small, fast greens.

📌 Numbers Game: At 39 years old, Jean Reynolds is the oldest player in the championship. Reynolds, a mini-tour player who currently holds no tour status of any kind, contended at the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open when she was an Epson Tour player.

The average age of the field this week is 26.15.

👑 Hall Of Fame: Lydia Ko needs just one more point to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame. The distinction only 34 players have earned since 1967. With 26 of the required 27 points, Ko’s next win will secure her a place among the legends of the game.

🏌‍♀Legend Lexi: Lexi Thompson made history back in 2007 when, at just 12 years of age, she became the youngest-ever qualifier for this prestigious tournament. Now, nearly two decades later, she is set to compete in her 18th consecutive U.S. Women’s Open.

🚫 Vu Withdraws: Lilia Vu’s 2024 has been hit by back issues. Vu, currently World No 2, has only managed seven starts this year and will be missing the tournament. This also marks her second consecutive absence from a major.

Tour Stars Swap Coaches To Succeed

The mantra for success on the PGA Tour seems to be "swapping coaches." Davis Riley won the Charles Schwab Challenge last week after reuniting with former coach Jeff Smith, but he's not the only one who has tasted success recently after changing coaches.

⛳️ Collin Morikawa, before the Masters, mentioned being "in transition" after splitting with his lifelong swing coach Rick Sessinghaus in the fall and struggling since.

Before the Masters, he reconnected with Sessinghaus, resulting in a T3 finish. More good results followed: ninth at the RBC Heritage, tied for 16th at the Wells Fargo, and back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the PGA Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge.

⛳️ Viktor Hovland ended 2023 as the FedEx Cup champion and the hottest golfer but lost his way after changing coaches and philosophies. He reunited with Joe Mayo, who had helped rebuild his short game, a week before the PGA Championship, where he finished third.

⛳️ Rory McIlroy visited Butch Harmon in Las Vegas, who always seems to set him straight with the same advice. McIlroy then won the Zurich Classic with Shane Lowry, dominated the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, and finished T12 at the PGA Championship. His swing seems to be working well.
