The last man into the 50-man field at the BMW Championship is at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round.

Keegan Bradley drilled his second shot at 18 from 176 yards to 10 feet and rolled in the birdie putt to shoot 6-under 66 at Castle Pines Golf Club and take a two-stroke clubhouse lead at the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Japanโ€™s Hideki Matsuyama, who won last week, finished one stroke back at 67, waiting out a 3-hour, 10 minute suspension of play due to lightning in the area to complete his final hole.

Bradley, who was named the 2025 US Ryder Cup captain in July, struggled last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing T-59. This week the new cut off is to make the top 30 and advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake, where the winner will earn $25 million in bonus money.

๐Ÿ“Œ Scheffler Injured? Scottie Scheffler finished with a couple of pars and posted three birdies and two bogeys for an opening-round 1-under 71. Afterwards, Scheffler downplayed any potential injury, saying, โ€œitโ€™s fine.โ€

On the 17th hole, Scheffler hit his second shot and touched his lower back with his left hand. He did concede that he woke up with a sore back and had trouble loosening it up.

Scheffler was paired on Thursday with Xander Schauffele, who is second in the FedEx Cup and shot 69 to best Scheffler, the FedEx Cup leader, by two strokes. The World No 1 is T-15 after Round 1.

๐Ÿ“Scott Returns After 24 Years: Adam Scott was among the pack that shared third after carding 4-under 68s. Scott made his Tour debut at Castle Pines at the International in 2000, a Tour event which was discontinued after 2006.

He has returned to this venue after 24 years - Scott and Jason Day are the only two players in the field this week to play here before.

EAGLE
Rory Makes $250 Million Business Move

Rory McIlroy has stirred controversy by investing in a contentious venture, becoming part of a consortium that has bought a majority share in TickPick.

McIlroy and his Dublin-based investment company, Symphony Ventures, have teamed up with Brighton Park Capital to acquire a significant stake in the secondary ticketing platform. The partnership is believed to have injected an estimated $250 million into the business.

Secondary ticketing platforms have been criticized for their ticket sales practices, often accused of scalping tickets and reselling them at inflated prices. Despite the negative image of secondary ticket marketplaces, McIlroy and Brighton chose to invest in TickPick.

Although it has not been specified what McIlroy's role would be in the company, TickPick would be looking to use McIlroy's popularity to help grow the company. TickPick currently has sponsorship deals with the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Twins and the La Liga, with its partnership with McIlroy being its foray into golf.

McIlroy is not new into the world of business. He is currently the co-founder of TMRW Sports alongside Tiger Woods, the parent company of Tomorrow's Golf League (TGL). McIlroy also has equity in Puttery, GolfPass, Golf+, Troon Golf, Hyperice and Whoop, showing his diverse portfolio.

What else is making news

LPGA Tour: Charley Hull rolled in a 6-foot putt on No 18 for the last of her six birdies at the home of golf to shoot 5-under 67 and take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the year's fifth and final major - the AIG Women's Open.

Equipment Tales: Collin Morikawa has opted for the low-spinning TaylorMade TP5x golf ball, but this week in Colorado, he has switched to the higher-spinning TP5 model - here's why.

Happy Gilmore 2: More than 12,000 prospective actors filled the Hyatt Regency in Morristown and the surrounding streets Tuesday afternoon during an open casting call for the upcoming Adam Sandler movie. Netflix officially announced in May that โ€œHappy Gilmore 2โ€ was in development nearly 30 years after the original movie was released.

Presidents Cup: Everything You Need To Know

The format of the Presidents Cup, which sees Team US compete against the International Team representing the rest of the world minus Europe, is played over four days and has multiple unique features - let us take a look.

๐Ÿ“Scoring System: The scoring system for the Presidents Cup is match play, with a total of 30 matches over four days of action, and 30 points available. One point is awarded to the winner of each match with half a point awarded to each in the event of a halved match.

The first three days feature a combination of either foursomes or fourball with the last day comprising 12 singles matches.

๐Ÿ“Format: Fourball features teams of two playing their own golf ball, with the better score of the pair counted on each hole. Foursomes features teams of two taking alternate shots with the same ball.

The singles matches put one player against another in head-to-head match play. The player with the lowest score wins each hole until the match is either won or halved.

The first two days each feature five doubles matches of either fourball or foursomes played in morning and afternoon sessions. The third day features eight matches of both fourball and foursomes over morning and afternoon sessions.

Finally, the remaining 12 points are up for grabs on Sunday as all 24 players compete in the 12 singles matches.

๐Ÿ“What's the criteria to Win? Teams need to reach 15.5 points from the 30 on offer to win the Presidents Cup unlike 14.5 points for an outright win in the Ryder Cup.

๐Ÿ“What happens in case of a Tie? In the Ryder Cup, if the teams canโ€™t be separated after the 12 singles matches, the previous holder keeps the trophy but in the Presidents Cup, the trophy is shared.

In any case, traditionally, the contests have not been so tight and the 2003 march remains the only tie, with the US having triumphed in 12 editions and the International Team just one, way back in 1998.
