Olympics: Can Team US Chase Down Home Favorite Boutier?

France's Celine Boutier holds a three-shot lead after Round 1 at Le Golf National. At last year’s Amundi Evian Championship, Boutier became the first woman to win a major on French soil - she now has her eyes on an Olympic Gold.

Boutier leads the field in strokes gained putting and scrambling in the first round. Her 65 was nine shots better than the field average - only a dozen players broke par.

⛳️ Team US In Contention: The US trio of Lilia Vu, Rose Zhang and Nelly Korda are very much in contention of finishing on the podium after the opening round. Vu is on 2-under after 18 holes while Zhang and Korda are on par.

Tokyo gold medalist Korda, the World No 1, shot a level-par round of 72 as she recovered from three early bogies.

📍Hall Of Fame Watch: The only golfer – male or female – with two Olympic medals, Lydia Ko’s journey to try to complete the set began with an opening 72. She’s currently in a share of 13th with Korda, Zhang and a host of others seven strokes back.

A gold medal this week would give Ko the 27th point needed to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame.

🚫 No Smoking: Great Britain's Charley Hull is playing with a disadvantage — at least for her. She won't be having any smokes at the 2024 Olympics, as it is banned at the international competition.

Hull went viral at the 2024 US Women's Open when she was seen ripping a cigarette at Lancaster Country Club during the major. And she has openly admitted - the secret to her success isn't a club, but a smoke.

Scheffler Set To Pocket $8 Million Bonus

Scottie Scheffler is set for another seven-figure sum to add to his stunning 2024 earnings. While victory at the Olympic Games barely added to his net worth, Scheffler has already racked up $28,148,691 in prize money from other tournaments.

He will now receive an additional $8 million bonus because he's guaranteed to claim the top prize from the Comcast Business Top 10. That sees a $20m sum shared among the top-10 finishers in the FedEx Cup regular season standings.

There are two $20m purse events left - the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship later this month. He'll then head into the season-concluding Tour Championship, where the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will battle it out to become FedEx champion.

As top seed, Scheffler will start ahead of his rivals on 10-under par in a strokes-based system to reward those who have had the best seasons. And given how he's been playing, you wouldn't bet against him claiming the top prize of $25m.

On top of all that, there's also the Player Impact Program, introduced in 2020/21 to reward members who generate the most positive influence on the tour.

All in all, there's still $42.2m, up for grabs for Scheffler. He's already broken his own record from the 2022/23 season for money won in a PGA Tour season, which was previously $21m, but it could reach a staggering level by the year end.
