Plus: How to strike your irons like a pro

Good Morning! Friday was a day of extremes for the World No 1s across the PGA and LPGA Tours.

While Scottie Scheffler was at his sublime best at the Travelers, Nelly Korda missed cut at the Women’s PGA Championship after shooting a shocking 81.

This is the first time in her LPGA career that Nelly has missed three cuts in a row.

Today’s Trivia: Nelly Korda missed the cut at the 2024 Women's PGA Championship, but she has won the Major once before - in which year? Answer at the end of the email.

⛳ This day in history: On this date, the rain-plagued 2009 US Open ended at Bethpage State Park Black Course on Long Island, with Lucas Glover winning his only major by two shots over Phil Mickelson, Ricky Barnes and David Duval.

Rain and lightning at TPC River Highlands caused a significant delay during the second round of the Travelers Championship but all golfers eventually managed to complete their rounds.

Before the delay, Tom Kim, who led with a 62 on Thursday, celebrated his 22nd birthday by shooting a 65, putting him at 13 under. He leads Akshay Bhatia, Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa by two strokes after 36 holes.

🚀 Scheffler In Contention: Scottie Scheffler, who has five wins and has earned over $24 million in official prize money this season, shot 65-64 and looks all set to make his signature late surge to clinch another trophy.

🎯 Consistent Collin: Collin Morikawa earned three top-five finishes in his last four events, and after his second-round 63 at the Travelers Championship, he’s in contention again heading into the weekend. He has made 12 birdies and only a single bogey through 36 holes.

📌 JT's Putter Heating Up: Justin Thomas has been among the worst putters, statistically, on the PGA Tour, ranking No. 166 out of 177 players in Strokes Gained: Putting. While Thursday was another frustrating day for Thomas, through 14 holes on Friday he had already made 81 feet of putts, which is 28 feet more than he made through 18 holes in the opening round.

His second-round 63 leaves him at 9 under and just four shots off the lead with 36 holes left to play.

The golf tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 1 to 10 August at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, featuring a total of 120 players (60 per gender) across two medal events.

The men's tournament will be held from August 1-4 while the women will play from August 7-10 - take a look at the brief history of the sport at the Olympic Games over the years.

⛳️ Tokyo 2020: Xander Schauffele claimed the men's gold medal with a score of 266 (18-under par), shooting in the 60s for all four rounds, highlighted by a second-round 63, which tied for the second-best round of the tournament.

In the women's event, Nelly Korda matched Schauffele's feat and won by carding gold scores in the 60s throughout all four rounds, with a standout second-round 62, the lowest round of the competition.

⛳️ Rio de Janeiro 2016: Justin Rose won gold after a historic hole-in-one during the opening round. He eventually finished the tournament with a score of 16-under par, two shots better than silver medalist Henrik Stenson of Sweden.

South Korea's Inbee Park ran away with the women's gold medal with a score of 16-under par, winning by five shots.

⛳️ St. Louis 1904: Canada's George Lyon had only been practicing golf for eight years when he won the second-ever men's individual Olympic golf tournament in St. Louis.

The 1904 Games also featured the first (and only) team golf competition at the Olympics. However, rather than golfers teaming up by nation, the competition featured teams of 10 from various regional golf associations around the United States.

The gold medal was won by the Western Golf Association, which featured Egan as its top player.

⛳️ Paris 1900: Charles Sands of the US won the first-ever Olympic gold medal in men's golf, winning by one stroke over Great Britain's Walter Rutherford.

In the women's tournament, Margaret Abbott became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal.
