Spieth Hits Reset Button On Home Turf

Jordan Spieth has just one top-10 finish in his past seven events, a stretch that has also featured a disqualification and three missed cuts. He's looking to make a fresh start on home turf at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

🚀 Inspired By Scheffler: Spieth needs to win a PGA Championship to complete the career Grand Slam and he has turned to Scottie Scheffler for inspiration. Both Spieth and Scheffler played golf at the University of Texas and live in Dallas.

"I am inspired by what he is doing. It makes me want to go out and get better."

🏥 Injury Worry: Spieth's injured wrist needs extended rest to truly heal and that's not the perfect scenario for him heading into this week's event. His ECU (extensor carpi ulnaris) tendon sheath has a partial tear, making it hard to keep the tendon in place.

With three more majors, the Olympics and the FedExCup Playoffs in his schedule, extended rest isn’t on the cards for some time. So Spieth will battle on.

⛳️ Playing @ Home: Spieth went 67-65-64-67 his last time at TPC Craig Ranch, the 2022 edition of the tournament and narrowly finished runners up. After missing last year's event to rehab an injured wrist, Spieth is grateful to return to familiar territory.

Dallas-area natives Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris are not a part of the field this week, so all eyes will be on local favorite, Jordan Spieth.

The Open Championship 2024 is set to take place from July 18-21 and this edition promises to be the grandest one till date.

🤯 Record Crowd Expected: 250,000 fans will walk through the gates of Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland this year. That will be the biggest crowd in the 10 Opens played at Royal Troon; 173,000 tickets were made available when Henrik Stenson defeated Phil Mickelson by three shots in the last one played there in 2016.

It will be the third-largest crowd in Open Championship history -- 290,000 tickets were available for the 150th Open at St. Andrews in Scotland in 2022 and 260,000 were distributed at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England, last year.

⛳️ Course Changes: Royal Troon will feature the longest hole in Open history - the par-5 sixth hole will be extended to 623 yards, which is 22 yards longer than in 2016 the last time Troon hosted.

Two holes later, players could see the shortest hole as the famous “Postage Stamp” could be shortened to 99 yards. Overall, nine new tees have been created to lengthen the course to 7,385 yards.

📍New Sponsor: Private aviation company NetJets has announced an exclusive partnership with The R&A as its official private jet provider for the Open Championship.

The multi-year deal allows NetJets to provide its clients with invitations to the Open, starting this year at Royal Troon.

Interesting Facts About The PGA Championship That You Should Know

Photo: Getty Images | Source: Golf Monthly

As the very best in the business ascend at Val Halla Golf Course for the 106th edition of the Major, we take a look at some interesting facts that you may not know about the grand old championship.

🚀 Change In Format: Between its inception in 1916 and 1957, the PGA Championship was a match play event. The format changed to stroke play - starting in 1958 with the standard 72-hole format of 18 holes per day over four days and has been the same ever since.

🚀 Youngest Winner: Gene Sarazen is the youngest winner of the PGA Championship when, in 1922, he defeated Emmet French at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. The American was just 20 years of age.

🚀 Walter Hagen Lost The Trophy: After Hagen's victory in 1927, the Wanamaker Trophy was nowhere to be seen. So much so, it could not be awarded to the winners in 1928 and 1929 (Leo Diegel).

It was later found in 1930, in the cellar of the company responsible for making Hagen's clubs!

🚀 Champions Dinner: Just like The Masters, the PGA Championship has a traditional Tuesday champions dinner where past winners assemble to celebrate the defending champion's triumph - with a menu selected by them.

🚀 Largest Winning Margin: Rory McIlroy holds the record for the largest winning margin in PGA Championship history, after triumphing in 2012 by eight strokes. He captured his first of two PGA Championships, at Kiawah Island with a score of 13-under-par ahead of England's David Lynn in second at five-under.
