Sixth Alternate T-2 After Shooting 63 @ Hamilton

Severe weather in Texas on Tuesday caused over 1,000 flight cancellations, including Sean O’Hair’s. The 41-year-old PGA TOUR veteran was trying to get from Lubbock to Toronto as the sixth alternate for the RBC Canadian Open.

By Tuesday morning, several withdrawals put him in the field. After waiting out the storms overnight, he drove five hours to Dallas on Wednesday and flew to Toronto, arriving that night.

Despite this, O’Hair shot a first-round 63 on Thursday morning, his lowest in over a decade and sits T-2 alongside Sam Burns.

🚀 Skinns Solo Leader: David Skinns had six birdies in a seven-hole stretch and shot an 8-under 62 to take the first round lead. He notably carded a 47-foot birdie putt on his 17th hole - the par-3 eighth.

📍Rory In Contention: Rory McIlroy overcame a lack of practice timeand a bit of a hangover to card a clean 4-under 66. McIlroy won Canada’s national open by seven strokes the last time Hamilton hosted, in 2019 and also triumphed in 2022 at St. George’s.

He is in contention once again after Round 1.

🤍 Bhatia's Gesture: Akshay Bhatia wrote 'G$' on his wrist in remembrance of Grayson Murray.

"I’m playing for him this week, and every round I play for the next however long. Yeah, he’s just with me all the time, and he meant a lot to me. Just happy and proud to wear Grayson’s name on my wrist."

- Akshay Bhatia

Bhatia currently sits T-34 after his opening round of 1-under 69.

While many of the game’s biggest stars struggled mightily in the opening round of the 79th U.S. Women’s Open, a number of amateurs shined. Recent NCAA champion Adela Cernousek of France is tied for second, a shot off the lead, after carding a 1-under 69 while reigning US Women’s Amateur champion Megan Schofill shot 70 to take a share of fifth.

Yuka Saso shot 68 to lead at 2 under, a shot ahead of Cernousek as well as Andrea Lee and Wichanee Meechai - those are the only four players in red numbers after 36 holes.

There are four amateurs near the top of the leaderboard, including Catherine Park.

🤯 Nelly Korda Posts Career-Worst 80: World No 1 Nelly Korda signed for a 10-over 80 to open play Thursday at Lancaster Country Club, the highest round in relation to par of her LPGA career. The average score for the field was 75.2.

The round marks Korda's second straight 80 in the U.S. Open as she finished last year's championship at Pebble Beach with an 8-over 80. Korda carded a septuple-bogey 10 on her third hole of the day.

She currently lies T-136 and is in danger of missing the cut after the second round. Fellow star golfers Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson also shot 80 each and are sweating the cutline.

These Star Golfers Have Never Won The US Open

The US Open is the next Major tournament on the golf docket - it tees off on June 13. We take a look at some of the top names who are yet to win this prestigious title including legendary veterans who are hoping for one last chance at immortality.

🏌‍♀Phil Mickelson: Mickelson is one of a few golfers who are within one Major title of a career Grand Slam, and that Major is the US Open. He is a part of the field this year too but unfortunately, he's well past his prime.

Nevertheless, this is likely to be his last shot at winning this coveted title.

🏌‍♀Scottie Scheffler: Scheffler is a two-time Major winner, but he's never won the US Open. Both of his wins were at the Masters Tournament, so he's still looking to diversify his portfolio.

He notably tied for second at the 2022 US Open.

🏌‍♀Justin Thomas: Thomas is a two-time Major winner, both from the PGA Championships in 2017 and 2022. He's still seeking a different Major title. His best finish was a T-8 in 2020, but he'll have another chance in two weeks.

🏌‍♀Xander Schauffele: No longer on the list of golfers who haven't won a single Major at all, Schauffele now has the unenviable task of trying to win different Major tournaments.

The PGA Championship has been checked off, so now he will try to win back-to-back tournaments and become one of the golfers who have won at the US Open. He's in good form, so now is his best shot.

🏌‍♀Viktor Hovland: Hovland nearly secured his first Major victory at the 2024 PGA Championship, finishing solo third. He has been in the top 10 of every Major except the US Open, indicating he may be due for a strong performance there.

🏌‍♀Ludvig Aberg: It's likely only a matter of time before Aberg wins a Major. Despite competing in only two Majors so far, he is among the world's most talented golfers without a Major win.
