⛳ This day in history: On this date in 1962, Jack Nicklaus won his first money as a professional on tour. He finished T50 at the Los Angeles Open, earning $33.33, on rounds totaling 289. The winner was Phil Rodgers with 268. Arnold Palmer had 283 for T-18.

Kirk Holds Off Theegala, Im Sets PGA Tour Record

Chris Kirk carded a final round 65 to pick up a sixth PGA Tour title and the biggest paycheck of his career - $3.6 million. Sahith Theegala finished second while Jordan Spieth claimed the third spot.
South Korea's Sungjae Im set a record for most birdies in a 72-hole PGA TOUR event, making 34 birdies across four rounds. He finished T5 alongside Collin Morikawa, Brian Harman, James Tyree Poston and Scottie Scheffler.

Top Pros Tee Off for $7.9M at Sony Open

The Sony Open will take place from January 11-14 at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. The event will see a 144-player field compete for the big prize - a total purse of $7.9 million.
The event will have some of the biggest names in the PGA Tour lining up, including defending champion Kim Si-Woo, Ludvig Aberg, Brian Harman, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton. Other top stars like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland have opted to sit out the weekend.
World No.8 Matt Fitzpatrick will be the highest-ranked golfer on the event field.

Max Homa: Max Homa's tee shot on the par-4 525-yard seventh hole at Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course measured an astonishing 477 yards during Round 3 of The Sentry. It is the longest recorded drive on the Tour in the ShotLink era (since 2003) and the biggest on the PGA Tour since 2002 when Tiger Woods hit one 498 yards on the 18th hole at Kapalua during the third round.
Gary Woodland: 2019 US Open Champion Gary Woodland will make his return to professional golf at the Sony Open in Hawaii, four months after he underwent brain surgery. Woodland, 39, has won four times on the PGA Tour, with his biggest victory coming at the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach.
The American Express: Two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and current US Open champion Wyndham Clark have joined the field for The American Express, which takes place later this month. The event will take place across three courses - the Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament courses at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club - with the prize pot set at $8.4million. Eight of the top 23 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are set to tee it up in California.
Tommy Fleetwood: Tommy Fleetwood has joined World No 1 Scottie Scheffler in signing a new multi-year deal with TaylorMade. Since signing with TaylorMade in 2021, Fleetwood has 15 top-10 finishes including top fives at three Majors - The Open and PGA Championship in 2022 and last year's US Open.
