Records, Ramey and Weather Headline Cognizant Classic Round 1

The opening round of the Cognizant Classic remained incomplete due to inclement weather conditions towards the end of the day but there was definitely no shortage of action or drama.

🚨 Record Alert: The field set a new record for the lowest opening round scoring average at PGA National with a mark of 69.55, more than half a stroke lower than the previous low of 70.15 in 2013 (with six golfers still on the course when play was suspended due to darkness on Thursday).

🏌️Ramey, Kim Share Lead: Chad Ramey and S.H. Kim share a single-stroke lead after shooting a bogey-free 7-under 64 in the opening round.

This is the first time in six starts this season that Ramey shot a first-round under 70.

⚠️ Stars Have A Mixed Outing: Cameron Young (T-3) had a great outing while Rory McIlroy (T-18) made a decent start to remain in contention.

Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick are T-76 after playing 16 and 15 holes respectively.

Defending champion Chris Kirk completed his round and lies T-18.

HSBC Women’s World Championship Round 2 Update

🔝 Boutier Sole Leader: Six-time LPGA Tour winner Celine Boutier posted a bogey-free round of 64 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead ahead of Ayaka Furue.

Overnight leader Sarah Schmelzel has dropped down to T-4.

🔻Vu and Ko Struggle: World No 1 Lilia Vu had a terrible day and dropped down from T-2 to T-21 at the end of Round 2.

Lydia Ko lies T-36, nine shots behind the leader.

Tiger Woods turned pro on August 29, 1996.

LIV Golf Faces $12 Million Dispute

Is the concept of LIV Golf stolen?

The Premier Golf League (PGL), a venture launched in 2019 by British corporate lawyer Andrew Gardiner, with financial backing from American finance company Raine Capital claims that LIV Golf has copied the format from them.

PGL has hired lawyers to take legal action against LIV Golf, but this has not reached the courts.

The two sides are expected to reach a settlement that would involve the Saudi-backed league paying about $12 million.

What Are The Similarities In Format?

✅ The PGL was conceived as a league of 48 players grouped into 12 teams that would play 18 tournaments over 54 holes, shotgun start.

✅ The purse for each tournament would be $9.5 million and there would be a Tour Championship with a $13.5 million purse.

✅ The PGL had a strong focus on team competition.
