Good Morning! Xander Schauffele won The Open Championship at Royal Troon - his second Major title of the season.

Check out the equipment Schauffele used during his victorious campaign and the complete prize money breakdown.

Fun Fact: American players have swept the men's major championship season for the first time (in a year where all four were contested) since 1982.

⛳ This day in history: Seve Ballesteros memorably ended Tom Watson's bid to win a third straight Open Championship on this date in 1984 when he birdied the 18th at the Old Course while Watson was making bogey on No 17.

Xander Schauffele shot a bogey-free 6-under 65 in the final round, tying for the best round of the week to win his second major of the year. Schauffele's birdie at the hardest hole on the course, the par-4 11th, was the game changer - he followed it with three more birdies to shoot a back-nine 31.

⚔️Schauffele vs Scheffler: Scottie Scheffler, who could only muster a 72 in his final round, was among the players Schauffele dusted on Sunday. While the total wins still tip toward Scheffler, Schauffele has now won 2 Majors this season, compared to Scheffler's 1.

This is certainly the rivalry we'll have our eyes on, in years to come.

📌Scheffler Struggles: World No 1 Scottie Scheffler, seeking his second major of the season, was at 4 under par in a bunched final round at Royal Troon. But then, his putter failed him.

His 1-over 72 put him at 1 under par for the championship, tied for seventh place and eight back of champion Xander Schauffele.

🚀Horschel and Rose Impress: Billy Horschel and Justin Rose finished two behind Schauffele in second, with some enviable rewards heading their way. Each of them bagged $1.44 million, 60 world ranking points, 400 FedEx Cup points and the Silver Salver trophy.

🥈Low Amateur: Scottish amateur Calum Scott has won the Silver Medal for being the leading amateur to make the cut. He carded five bogeys on the back nine to sign for a 76 and finish eight-over for the Championship but was still three strokes ahead of his nearest unpaid rival.

Will Tiger Ever Contend In A Major Again?

Photo: Reuters | Source: The Mirror

Tiger Woods struggled again at the Open Championship, shooting 79-77 to miss the cut in his third straight major - he has withdrawn or missed the cut in six of his last major starts over the past three years. He also made it clear that he simply can’t get the reps in to prepare for majors without risking injury.

That makes us wonder - will the 15-time champion ever contend in a Major again? The talent is still there, but his body simply can’t handle the grind of a full week at a major championship.

Woods had arrived at Royal Troon adamant that he will play as long as he feels he can still win, shunning former world No 2 Colin Montgomerie’s suggestion he should consider retiring. Now after his early exit from The Open, he vowed that he will return for the 153rd edition of the major at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

This season marks the first since his 2021 car crash that Woods has competed at all four majors - but again, he didn't really contend in any of them. And, given his recent performances, it's unlikely we'll see him fighting for the title in a Major ever again.

⛳️ What's Next For Tiger? Tiger Woods didn't take long to get back from Scotland to Michigan - he boarded a plane to get back to the United States to help his son Charlie begin preparations for his first USGA Championship.

Charlie Woods, 15, shot one-under 71 last month in South Florida to qualify for the championship, one his father won three straight times from 1991-93.

Tiger was spotted walking the fairways in Detroit with Charlie and Davis Ovard, who just finished his freshman season of college at Baylor in Texas. Charlie is grouped with Ovard and Chase Kyes the first two rounds.

This Is How Dominant Schauffele Has Been In Majors

Xander Schauffele's nine-under-par total at Royal Troon took his cumulative score in the four majors to 32 under. That put him 15 shots ahead of World No 1 Scottie Scheffler, who appeared to be a lock for Player Of The Year title before Schauffele won two of the season's final three majors.

There's no debate who was the best player in the year's four major championships. Schauffele is not only the Champion Golfer of the Year, but the Major Golfer of the Year.

In the 90-year history of four majors, Schauffele became the first player to win two majors in one season with a final-round 65. Jack Nicklaus is the only other player to do that in his career.

⏳Xander Schauffele's 2024 Recap: Schauffele has won just two events, but they were both majors—the PGA Championship and this week's Open.

He is second in scoring average, second in total strokes gained, a top-10 putter, best scrambler in the game, third in strokes gained/tee to green.

Schauffele has emerged as a more complete player than Scheffler, for the simple fact that he's one of the game's best putters. Scheffler ranks 90th of 172 on the PGA Tour.

The season isn't over, the players will continue to fight through the FedEx Cup finals and more events - but, no matter what else 2024 brings, Schauffele is the player of the year.
