Plus: How to fix your balance in the golf swing

Good morning! Rory McIlroy expects 'billions of dollars changing hands' by the end of the year for the PGA x LIV Golf deal.

The PGA Tour star is all set to play a round of golf with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and Saudi Arabia PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan this week in Scotland.

⛳ This day in history: The 1884 and 1885 Open Championships ended on this date. In 1884, at Prestwick GC, Jack Simpson won in windy conditions by four strokes from fellow Scots Douglas Rolland and Willie Fernie. In 1885, Bob Martin won by one shot over Archie Simpson at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

The 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal drew a sharply smaller television audience compared to the 2022 edition that was played at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

1.37 million people tuned in for Sunday’s final day on NBC, marking a 28 percent decline from 2022’s audience of 1.89 million, even though the events were played in the same time zone. Saturday’s all-day coverage, which served as a lead-in to college football on NBC, brought in 1.21 million viewers, down 36 percent from 1.89 million two years ago.

To put Sunday’s 1.37 million viewers into perspective, the NFL matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers on CBS attracted 24.1 million viewers. The Thursday night football game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, which was only available on Amazon Prime, drew 16.2 million views.

The Presidents Cup’s figures fall significantly short of the golf’s marquee events. The final round of the 2024 Masters was down 20 percent year-over-year but was still viewed by 9.58 million people.

The final round of the 2024 US Open, which featured a duel between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, was viewed by a total audience on NBC and Peacock of 5.9 million viewers.

PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan and his partner for the week, tour player Billy Horschel, are playing the first round at Carnoustie with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Arabian Investment Fund, which finances competitor LIV Golf, and LIV tour member Dean Burmester.

The DP World Tour event - Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is being played on a rotation of Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and the Old Course, with the final round at the Old Course in St Andrews after the field is trimmed to the top 60 pros (including ties) and the leading 20 teams.

One of PGA Tour's literal biggest hitters and stars, Rory McIlroy, is partnered with his father Gerry. The McIlroys are grouped with Monahan and Horschel on Friday, and Al-Rumayyan and Burmester on Saturday.

Representatives of the two tours reportedly met in New York on Sept. 11. A member of the PGA Tour Enterprises transaction subcommittee with Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, which is negotiating with the PIF, McIlroy is optimistic that the talks might bring a conclusion "definitely before the year's end."

📌 Fowler's Equipment Tweaks: Rickie Fowler is set to make three different equipment changes this week in Scotland.

He is adding a TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver Copper into the bag that’s equipped with a Mitsubishi Diamana WB 73TX shaft. Throughout 2024, Fowler has used a standard-sized 3-wood head at 13.5 degrees.

As for the irons, Fowler is switching to a new, black version of his previous Cobra King Tour irons (4-PW), which means the change here is mostly just cosmetic.

Additionally, he is going with an L.A.B. Golf DF3 mallet putter at a standard 34.5 inches, equipped with a TPT shaft and an L.A.B. Press Pistol grip.
