Is Surgery The Only Option For Jordan Spieth?

Jordan Spieth has decided he will have to “do something” this offseason about the left-wrist injury that has bothered him for more than a year. Though his wrist issue would provide a convenient excuse, Spieth said he doesn’t experience any discomfort while playing. It mostly flares up off the course.

Spieth has hinted that surgery could be the only permanent solution.

"It's not hurting, but subconsciously it's hard not to look at the numbers and think 'this isn't a coincidence.' so I've been taking trips out as well as being in contact with a lot of doctors, getting it scanned again and trying to figure out what the next move is.”

- Jordan Spieth

Spieth has been dealing with problems in his left wrist since 2018. The first injury came during a weight training session at the gym. It was diagnosed as a bone chip. At the time, doctors recommended surgery in treatment.

Spieth decided not to go to the operating room and the injury eventually improved. However, the three-time major champion has suffered recurrences ever since.

Spieth's wrist injury has very much been a part of his 2024 season. He is ranked 14th on Tour in strokes gained: off the tee – his best performance in more than a decade, since his first few years on Tour. But he is losing strokes to the field with his approach play, and he’s well outside the top 100 in Tour in proximity to the hole with his wedges.

Spieth will tee off tomorrow at the Wyndham Championship in a bid to make it to the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Ryder Cup: How Will Team Europe Select Its Players?

Photo: Imago | Source: NBC Sports

European captain Luke Donald confirmed that there will no longer be two separate points lists that determine the top six automatic qualifiers onto the team. Instead, there will be a new, single points list that more heavily weights tournaments such as major championships, PGA Tour signature events and DP World Tour Rolex Series events.

There are no points available for LIV Golf events. This marks a significant change from previous years, when European team leadership relied on both a World Points list (based on the Official World Golf Ranking) and European Points List (based on Race to Dubai points).

Donald will still have six captain’s picks for the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black. The European team qualification process begins Aug. 29 at the British Masters and will run through August 2025.

Players must remain members of the DP World Tour in order to be eligible for the European team, which means that LIV players such as Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will have to play four regular events this season to retain membership.

Here is the distribution breakdown of available points:

đź“ŤMajor championships: 5,000

đź“Ť2025 PGA Tour signature events/Players/FedExCup playoffs: 3,000

đź“ŤDP World Tour Rolex Series events: 2,000

đź“Ť2025 PGA Tour regular FedExCup events: 2,000

📍DP World Tour “Back 9” events: 1,500

📍DP World Tour “Global Series” events: 1,000

đź“Ť2025 PGA Tour opposite-field events: 1,000

FedEx Cup Playoffs: Who Are In Line To Qualify?

Photo: Reuters | Source: Golf Digest

The FedEx Cup Regular Season finale has arrived, as this week’s Wyndham Championship marks the last chance to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs.

The top 70 on the FedEx Cup after the Wyndham Championship will qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the three-event FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top 50 after the FedEx St. Jude will qualify for the BMW Championship, and the top 30 after the BMW will qualify for the TOUR Championship.

After an emotional week at his home Paris Olympics, Victor Perez arrives at the Wyndham holding the all-important No 70 position on the FedExCup Playoffs and Eligibility Points List, as he looks to stave off challengers and solidify a Playoffs berth. Tournament winners this season near the bubble include Nick Dunlap (No 65 on the Playoffs and Eligibility Points List), Jhonattan Vegas (No 66) and Davis Riley (No 71).

Last year, winner Lucas Glover was the only player to move inside the top 70 at the Wyndham Championship. This week has the potential to offer more volatility, though, based on the results of players near the bubble.

⛳️ Who are the Big Names To Miss Out? Stars who are already out include Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson, Cameron Champ and Francesco Molinari.

Fowler is without a top-10 finish this season. As a result, he’s currently 104th in the FedEx Cup standings, well short of reaching the first Playoff event. Johnson is currently on 181 points, meaning even a win this week wouldn’t be enough to jump from 152nd in the standings to 70th.

As for Molinari, he is 205th in the FedEx Cup standings and with no place in the Wyndham Championship field, not only will Molinari not make the Playoffs, but he won’t make the top 125 to keep his full card.
