Tour Championship: Who Will Reign Supreme?

After two FedEx Cup Playoffs, the battle to decide who will lift the trophy in 2024 comes down to the Tour Championship.
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler will begin on 10-under with Xander Schauffele in second on eight-under after his T-5 finish at the BMW Championship.
On seven-under is Hideki Matsuyama, helped by his victory in the first of the Playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, while Bradley, who only made the BMW Championship by a whisker after heading into it 50th in the standings, begins in fourth on six-under following his victory.
Ludvig Aberg starts the tournament five shots off the leader, with five players completing the top 10, who all begin on four-under including Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay.
The format of the Tour Championship means that, regardless of what has happened earlier in the season, even the player in 30th begins with only a 10-shot disadvantage over the leader.
⛳️ Who are the Contenders? Scheffler will once again head to East Lake ranked No 1 in the FedEx Cup standings after a fabulous 2024 campaign that includes six TOUR victories and a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. This is the third straight year Scheffler has entered the PGA TOUR season finale ranked No 1 in the standings.
Schauffele has authored his own tremendous campaign with two major titles to his name. He and Scheffler have separated themselves from the chasing pack on top of the FedEx Cup standings, as Schauffele is almost 1,500 points ahead of No 3 Hideki Matsuyama.
Matsuyama won the FedEx St. Jude Championship but withdrew from the BMW Championship due to a back injury. He’s set to return to action at East Lake .
Rory McIlroy, at No 6 in the standings, is looking to win his record fourth FedEx Cup title. He has finished outside the top 10 just once in the last seven years at East Lake.

This Trait Is Essential To Generate Speed

Every player has their own way of doing things, and if they can become consistent enough, their potential is endless. But while the aesthetics of every swing is different, there are some commonalities that all elite players share.
Today, we explore how incorporating one such trait in your own game can improve your swing.
📌 The secret to owning your swing is correctly sequencing everything to create the perfect mix of power and control. One of the key elements of this sequencing comes in the form of your turn.
📌 Turning back and through is the foundation of any swing - but you don’t want everything turning all at once. Instead, you want to be able to disconnect your upper and lower body during the turn.
📌 When you can achieve separation between these two components during the backswing, you are creating tons of potential energy. And when you unwind it all on the way down, that energy is unleashed, creating lots of speed.
📌 This separation is the key for creating easy power — and if you can incorporate it in your own swing, you can create speed just like the pros.

What else is making news
Solheim Cup: Georgia Hall, Anna Nordqvist and Emily Kristine Pedersen and Albane Valenzuela are the four captain picks who will represent Team Europe against the United States next month.
Bradley Denied: US 2025 Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley will not earn any points for his win at the BMW Championship at the weekend. The reason for this is that the only events that will receive points are The Players Championship, and the four Major Championships: The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open.
LPGA Tour: After a month of golf in Europe, the LPGA Tour returns to the US for the inaugural edition of the FM Championship - here are five things to know.
Team Cup: The Team Cup (formerly the Hero Cup) will return in 2025 for its second edition, two years after the inaugural match, as teams from Continental Europe and Great Britain & Ireland compete over three days of action - Francesco Molinari and Justin Rose named playing captains.
Record Alert: Ludvig Åberg is set to make his Tour Championship debut this week. With this, he has set a unique record by becoming the first PGA Tour university graduate to qualify for the season-ending championship.

FedEx Cup: These Star Golfers Will Miss The Finale

The conclusion of the BMW Championship saw the number of players in contention for the FedEx Cup drop from 50 to just 30. Some of the biggest names in the sport have failed to qualify for the finale - let us take a look.
🏌️Brian Harman: Harman’s career highlight will remain his victory at the 2023 Open for the time being, after he had appeared in reasonable shape to make the field for the East Lake event, only to miss out by the narrowest of margins.
He began the BMW Championship 29th in the FedEx Cup standings, but he could only finish 25th at the tournament to drop just beneath the cut-off, 29 points behind the man who claimed the final Tour Championship place, Justin Thomas.
🏌️Jason Day: Just two places beneath Harman in the FedEx Cup standings is former World No 1 Jason Day after he began the BMW Championship in 25th. He could only manage a T-33 finish, which wasn’t enough to book his place at East Lake.
🏌️Will Zalatoris: After spending much of 2023 recovering from back surgery, there’s a compelling argument that Zalatoris did well to make it as far as the second of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. A top-six finish would have been enough, but he fell just three shots short of that target.
🏌️Matt Fitzpatrick: The 2022 US Open champion was a place above Zalatoris in the standings as he arrived in Colorado for the BMW Championship, but he got off to a shaky start with a 74 in the opening round before his form began trending in the right direction.
His finish of T-28 fell short of what was required, and he exited the Playoffs 10 places beneath the cut-off for the Tour Championship.
🏌️Max Homa: Homa began the BMW Championship 13 places and 159 points adrift of the cut-off. While a top-five finish would have been enough for him to reach the Tour Championship, it didn’t quite happen for the six-time PGA Tour winner as he finished T-33, leaving him 46th in the standings.
