🏌🏻 Woods vs Mickelson: Final Showdown?

Plus: How to putt like Nelly Korda

Good morning. Round 1 at The CJ CUP Byron Nelson was suspended due to darkness, but it has now resumed, and Round 2 is also in progress.

The weather forecast is better than yesterday but inclement weather could interrupt play towards the later part of the day (shouldn’t be a long delay, fingers crossed).

You can catch all the action live on the ESPN streaming hub.

Fun Fact: During the 1960s, the PGA Championship was played the week after The Open Championship five times, making it virtually impossible for players to compete in both majors.

β›³ This day in history: On this date in 1964, Pete Brown won the Waco Turner Open in Burneyville, Oklahoma, one of the first African-American victories of a PGA Tour event.

Rain delayed the start of Round 1 by an hour but the field at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson didn't fail to deliver, registering a number of low scores.

πŸš€ Wallace Solo Leader: Matt Wallace shot an 8-under 63 for a one-shot lead over seven players. Defending champion Jason Day was in a large group trailing by three while local favorite Jordan Spieth carded a 3-under to sit T-53.

πŸ“Œ Kim's 68: 16-year-old English amateur Kris Kim shot a three-under 68 on his PGA Tour debut. He made five birdies and an eagle to remain in contention of becoming the fifth-youngest player to make the cut in a Tour event.

🚨 Ace Alert: Raul Pereda made his first hole-in-one in TOUR competition, acing the 236-yard par-3 seventh hole. It was the 11th ace of the PGA Tour season and Pereda's sixth ace in his career.

🌦️ Weather Watch: Thunderstorms are expected again early Friday morning as a cold front settles into the region. Storms could be strong to severe with heavy rain and strong gusty winds and play is likely to interrupted.

Tiger Accepts US Open Exemption As Rival Hints Retirement

Photo: Getty Images | Source: NBC Sports

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have been the two biggest names in golf from the early 1990s onwards and their rivalry certainly goes down as one of the greatest ones of all-time.

But it's not the same anymore for a number of years now and the rivalry could officially be over very soon.

⛳️ Tiger To Play US Open: Tiger Woods is set to make his first appearance at the US Open since 2020 after he was granted a special exemption into the 2024 edition by the USGA.

Woods' last start at the US Open saw him miss the cut at Winged Foot in 2020. His last top-ten in the tournament came in 2010 at Pebble Beach when he finished tied for fourth.

πŸŒβ€β™€Mickelson Drops Retirement Hint: Phil Mickelson has admitted that his golf career is "towards its end" as the six-time Major champion gave the biggest indication yet that he is considering retirement.

"I'm 53 and my career is toward its end. Now, I would like to help others find the same enjoyment and fulfilment that the game of golf has provided me.”

- Phil Mickelson

Mickelson is already exempt to play the US Open though and he is likely to then go on and play the final major of the year - The Open Championship, which could very well be the final showdown between the two great rivals.

These Golf World Records Might Never Be Broken

While records are meant to be broken, these incredible world records are here to stay for a long time (if not forever).

🀯 Longest Putt: The longest golf putt (non-tournament) is 120.6 m (395 ft 8in) and was achieved by Brett Stanford at the Point Walter Golf Course, Western Australia.

As for the longest televised putt in history, that could well be claimed by Ian Poulter who made one from over 160 feet on the ninth hole at St Andrews during the 2022 Open Championship.

🀯 Youngest Player To Hit An Ace: Christian Carpenter managed a hole-in-one aged 4 years 195 days at the Mountain View Golf Club, Hickory, North Carolina, in 1999.

Carpenter’s record-breaking continued aged 12 when he shot 54, the lowest 18-hole score on a short course for a male golfer.

🀯 Most Holes Played In A Year: Canadian Chris Adam has played the most holes of golf in a calendar year. He managed 14,625, all at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Wailuku, Hawaii.

He played 809 full rounds and seven half rounds over the course of 2012.

🀯 One-Club Wonder: The lowest 18-hole score using only one club was a two-under-par 70 by American Thad Daber using his 6-iron at the 1987 World One Club Championship at Lochmere Golf Club in North Carolina.

🀯 World's Longest Club: American Michael Furrh created the world’s longest usable golf club at 8.56m (28ft 1in) long. He hit the ball a distance of 59 yards in order to prove its usability and in doing so raised money for breast cancer awareness.
