🏌🏻Schauffele Wins Maiden Major

Plus: How to avoid standing up through impact

Good morning! Xander Schauffele won his maiden major title at the PGA Championship in Valhalla and is the new World No 2.

Check out the equipment he used and the complete prize money breakdown from the tournament.

Switching over to the LPGA, Nelly Korda won her sixth LPGA title this season at the Mizuho Americas Open - here’s the equipment Korda used and the prize money she bagged.

Fun Fact: Xander Schauffele is the first player in men's golf history to make 25+ birdies in multiple majors (2019 Masters, 2024 PGA).

⛳️ This Day In History: On this date in 1962, the great Patty Berg won the Muskogee Civitan Open on the Muskogee Country Club in Oklahoma. She shot four under par for the tournament to win by two shots over Shirley Englehorn and Ruth Jessen. It was the 57th and final tour victory in Berg’s marvelous career.

Xander Schauffele birdied the 72nd hole to break a late tie with Bryson DeChambeau and win the PGA Championship for his first career major title. He posted a final-round, 6-under 65 to finish the week 21-under 263.

Schauffele had seven top-10s in 11 starts before arriving at Valhalla, including runners-up at THE PLAYERS and last week’s Wells Fargo Championship. He is now placed second in both the FedEx Cup standings and the OWGR.

🚀 DeChambeau's Challenge: Bryson DeChambeau finished second in Valhalla by one stroke after a consistent display throughout the week. His best round came on Sunday, when he played a bogey-free round with seven birdies.

The LIV Golfer eventually finished 20 under to register his best ever finish at the PGA Championship.

⏳ Hovland's Resurgence: Viktor Hovland nearly pulled out of the PGA Championship such has been the state of his game in 2024. But as things turned out, he finished 3rd.

After reuniting with his former coach Joseph Mayo, Hovland seems to have quickly turned the corner and put up a thoroughly impressive show in Valhalla.

📍 Scheffler's Strong Finish: Scottie Scheffler carded a closing 65 at Valhalla to share the early clubhouse lead on 13 under par, although his chances of claiming back-to-back major titles had effectively ended with a third round of 73.

It was a hectic week for Scheffler having been detained by the Police earlier on Friday but could have still gone on to win the tournament if not for a poor round three. He finished T-8, eight shots behind the leader.

Nelly Korda won a back nine showdown with Hannah Green of Australia with a par on the 18th hole to capture the Mizuho Americas Open by a stroke. This is her sixth win in seven starts on the LPGA Tour this year.

What Does This Mean For Nelly Korda?

📌 Korda is now the first player since Inbee Park (2013) to record six wins in a single season.

📌 Her 14 career LPGA titles puts her ahead of Stacy Lewis, Betty Jameson and Rosie Jones in all-time wins by an American (13) since 1980.

📌 Korda now needs just 10 more points to qualify for the LPGA Hall of Fame. She has earned seven of her 17 points this season.

📌 Korda earned $450,000 for the win. Earlier this season, she became the fastest player to reach $2 million in single-season earnings.

LPGA Monitoring Health Of Ill Players: While Nelly Korda is celebrating her sixth title, it's not all rosy for the LPGA Tour. The Tour is currently monitoring the health of 10 golfers who withdrew from the Mizuho Americas Open due to various illnesses.

Three of the 10 golfers who withdrew did so due to injuries, unrelated to a sickness. Specifics of the illness - other than Rose Zhang saying she had “bad intestinal pain” - are unknown.

Medical professionals have treated them for symptoms related to a viral infection.

🏌‍♀Amateur Korda: Nelly Korda played her second major as an amateur back in 2014. It would take her another four years to register her first LPGA Tour victory. Nelly Korda is now an Olympic gold medalist, with two majors and 12+ LPGA Tour victories.

🏌‍♀Thomas On KFT: Justin Thomas, who has two PGA Championships now, was plying his trade at the Korn Ferry Tour. Thomas had attended both the 2000 PGA Championship and the 2008 Ryder Cup in Valhalla but missed the 2014 one due to his KFT commitments.
